FILLET BREAK OVER / FRACTURE TEST

This test evaluates the fracture toughness of a welded joint or material, specifically assessing the strength of the weldment and the base material under stress.

 Procedure

  • A test specimen, typically a fillet weld, is subjected to a controlled load until it breaks.

  • The specimen is usually prepared with a specific geometry, such as a fillet weld joint, and loaded in a manner that causes a fracture.

  • The test helps identify weaknesses in the weld, including potential defects such as incomplete fusion, porosity, or undercuts.
